What is a B Corporation?
Very simply, B Corporation is a legal status given to companies that decide to pursue and implement certain business practices that help solve social and environmental problems. These business practices are categorized into four measurable aspects:
1) Governance: How the company's executive team governs and conducts business. Example: Is there a formal process a company has to share financial information with all of its full time employees?
2) Workers: How the employees of the company are treated. Examples: a) What percent of full-time and part time workers offered health insurance benefits? b) What percent of full-time workers reimbursed for continuing education opportunities?
3) Community: How engaged the company is within its community. Example: Are employees allowed options for time off (paid or unpaid) to participate in community service?
4) Environment: How the company is contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable world. Example: What steps are taken to lessen company's environmental impact (work from home, use of public transit or energy efficient vehicles, etc).
